RLBFT offers evening and weekend classes for children and adults. While most classes fill quickly, RLBFT will wait-list a student until space in a class becomes available, or until the next semester.

CLASSES FOR CHILDREN

CHILDREN’S BEGINNER CLASS

This introductory class is for students new to folklórico. Girls and boys are taught the basics of body awareness, alignment, and posture. Students are taught the fundamentals of classic ballet stretches and the waltz, along with basic folklórico footwork that serve as a foundation for advancement into other classes. Students are expected to know the difference between right and left.

Schedule

Days: Wednesdays and Saturdays
Times: 6:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. on Wednesdays, 9:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m. on Saturdays.

CHILDREN’S INTERMEDIATE CLASS

This class is for students who have been promoted from the beginners’ class, or who have sufficient dance experience to skip the beginners’ class. Students are expected to have adequate body coordination, and should know basic folklórico footwork patterns. Students are taught more challenging dances at a faster pace than the beginner class.

CHILDREN’S COUPLES CLASS

This co-ed class is similar in structure to the intermediate class, but is meant for students who have been enrolled for at least one semester in our dance school. Emphasis in this class is put on dancing as a couple, where boys and girls learn the fundamentals of partner work, performance character, and choreography.

Junior Intermediate Class

This class is for advanced students who have gone through the beginner or intermediate classes. Students are expected to have strong control of their body and feet, and should be able to participate in challenging choreographies. Students are also expected to periodically attend extra rehearsals in preparation for performances.

CLASSES FOR TEENS

Junior Advanced Class

Students in this class learn difficult footwork combinations, complex choreographies, and advanced performance character and stage presence. Students are expected to know the history and differences between Mexico’s many dance customs. Students are also expected to occasionally attend extra rehearsals in preparation for performances. This class serves as the final step in a student’s dance education before they are invited to join the ranks of the Adult Company. Students are expected to have superior dance and performance ability, and are expected to periodically attend extra rehearsals in preparation for performances.

CLASSES FOR ADULTS

BEGINNER ADULT CLASS

The adult beginner class is for inexperienced adult dancers who simply wish to exercise or to learn about Mexican dance customs. This class is structured for adults who have little or no dance experience, with instruction focusing on the basics of body awareness and coordination, and basic footwork and skirtwork technique. Students have the option of paying per class or enrolling in the semester.

Time: 7:00 p.m. – 8:15 p.m.
Costs: $55 per month
