Required Materials

dancer5RLBFT’s School of Dance students are required to have practice and performance supplies to ensure uniformity and promote discipline. Only black and white clothes without any type of logo are permitted to be worn in class. RLBFT instructors will enforce the uniform policy to the fullest extent.

Girls’ Uniform
  • Black leotard
  • White tights
  • Pink ballet slippers
  • Black folklórico shoes
  • Blue practice skirt
  • Black hair bun (purchased through RLBFT only, see office staff)
  • Optional: Black leg warmers, shorts or sweaters to be worn over uniform

Boy’s Uniform
  • Black unitard OR black shorts/sweat pants
  • White t-shirt
  • Black ballet slippers
  • Black folklórico boots

Shoes and Boots

RLBFT requires folklórico style shoes for all students. Folklórico shoes and boots have small nails on the bottom of the heel and toe tip, with rubber grip soles. Do not purchase flamenco shoes as the tall heel for this style of shoe can negatively affect young dancers’ ability to perform simple steps. RLBFT recommends Miguelito brand shoes for students; however other suitable brands include Regional Garota and Josefina. They can be purchased through:

Skirts

RLBFT girls must wear a blue practice skirt to ensure they can learn the basics of folklórico skirtwork. RLBFT requires that skirts be made of broadcloth material and colored Indian Turquoise. Skirts can be purchased through:

Performance Makeup

While students are not required to wear makeup at performances, certain shows performed on large stages require some amount of makeup for girls because of lighting. Please be sure to check with your students’ instructor before purchasing any makeup for a performance.
